When it comes to trailer relocations, even a minor planning mistake can result in a significant loss. Many people think that moving a trailer is just like normal shifting, but the reality is the opposite.
Whether you are moving a storage trailer, mobile home, or office trailer, a wrong step can cause damage and delay.
The following are common mistakes people make during trailer relocation, and how we can help you avoid them to make your move stress-free.
1. Ignoring Proper Planning and Route Checking
The most common mistake is no planning. People often think that trailer relocations are a one-day job, but they are actually not. A proper route plan, safety checks, and timings are crucial. If you do not track the route early, you can get stuck in narrow roads, low bridges, and construction areas. It can result in stress, fuel waste, and delays. Always plan your routine. Use GPS, check traffic updates, and select roads where the trailer can pass safely.
2. Not Inspecting the Trailer before Relocation
Another common mistake is to ignore the trailer inspection. If the tyres are worn out, the brakes are weak, and the lights are not working, the relocation becomes risky. A minor mechanical fault on the highway can result in a significant accident. Before moving the trailer, conduct a thorough health check to ensure that the lights, tyres, brakes, and hitch connections are all in perfect condition.
3. Overloading the Trailer
It is a frustrating mistake to overload the trailer. People think that they can place everything inside, but the trailers also have a weight limit. The overloading not only causes the imbalance but also pressurises the tyres and axle. It can result in the trailer wobble, weak brakes, and increased risk of accidents. Always be aware of the trailer’s maximum weight capacity. Distribute the load unevenly to maintain balance.
4. Forgetting the Legal Documents
Many people ignore this matter. There is also a need for special permits when relocating the trailer, especially if the load is oversized and the distance is long. Without the legal papers, you can get stuck at the police checkpoints, which can result in heavy fines. It is essential to keep important documents, such as registration papers, insurance, and a driver’s license, with you. The legal clearance will ensure a smooth and easy relocation.
5. Not Securing the Load Properly
When there are no straps around your load, the items will unevenly distribute, which can be risky because a sharp turn can result in the loss of the load. You should secure the load with strong ropes and straps to ensure everything remains in its place. A slight negligence can result in product loss.
6. Ignoring Weather Conditions
Another mistake is to avoid the weather. Moving the trailer is very difficult in heavy rain, snow, and strong winds, and it poses a significant hazard. The slippery roads and low visibility can cause accidents. Choosing the wrong timings is also a mistake, such as during rush hours. Always check the weather forecast before you move. Avoid extreme sunny weather and move in the morning hours to make your journey smooth.
Trailer relocation is a serious job, in which every step is carefully planned. Many people make small mistakes that can lead to regret later. If you avoid these mistakes, your experience can be smooth and stress-free.
